Child Care Nurse Consultant

Department: Child Care Resource & Referral
Location: Remsen, IA

WANTED: Child Care Nurse Consultant for Childcare Resource & Referral Program. 32-40 hours per week, eligible for benefits. Position will telecommute. Registered Nurse with current Iowa licensure required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, good organizational skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team. This position will provide guidance, training, coordination and support to community-based child care businesses to promote safe and healthy child care environments for all children. Valid driver's license, insurance and reliable transportation required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Registered Nurse with current Iowa licensure, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing or related degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of two-years’ experience as a RN in community health, public health, pediatric practice, or other pediatric health setting

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides guidance, training, coordination, and support to community-based child care businesses to promote safe and healthy child care environments for all children including children with special health or developmental needs.
  • Provide group training based on approved curriculum. Meet level II instructor qualifications as outlined in the Iowa CCR&R Network Training Policies and Procedures Handbook if required.
  • Uses Healthy Child Care Iowa materials and structured observation tools when conducting or providing consultation, training, and technical assistance.
  • Provides guidance, support, referrals, and access to care coordination for families and child care businesses to access:
    • up-to-date immunizations for children in child care.
    • quality health, dental, and developmental screening and comprehensive follow-up for children in child care.
    • mental health consultation and educational services for the family, children, or child care businesses.
    • health, nutrition, and safety education and services for children (including special health or developmental needs).
  • Ability to complete the Iowa Training Project for Child Care Nurse Consultants (ITPCCNC)
  • Ability to structure daily appointments and provide follow-up services to providers
  • Complete provider records and submit data for reports on a timely basis utilizing required data collection methods.
  • Maintains communication capability for receiving and disseminating child care health and safety information with the Child Care Resource and Referral offices, WIC/Maternal and Child Health Department, Iowa Department of Public Health, and other community partners.
  • Participate in community and business fairs as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Submit to a FBI National Criminal History Check upon employment and every four years thereafter.

  • Submit to a Department of Human Services Criminal History and a Request for Child Abuse Information Records check before hire and every two years thereafter.

  • Be able to lift up to 40 pounds, crawl on the floor and occasionally stand 4 hours at a time.
